Mariea A. Becknell, MA, CCC-SLP

 

SpeechWorks! Therapy Services, Inc. was founded by Mariea A. Becknell, a nationally certified and state licensed speech-language pathologist because she knew that is was her duty to share her expertise with children and their families. Mariea has enjoyed 20+ years success as a speech-language pathologist by supporting children birth to school aged while maintaining an appropriate high standard of care. 

 

Mariea is a southern girl at heart and lived her formative years in New Orleans, Louisiana….Throw Me Something Mister! However, for over 15 years she has called Kennesaw, Georgia her home.  Mariea is excited to operate a viable practice in order to give back to her community.

 

Mariea earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Xavier University of Louisiana.  While attending Xavier University of Louisiana, she received the Outstanding Junior and Senior clinician awards consecutively. Mariea was awarded a full scholarship and assistantship to the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Mariea’s practicum experiences in graduate school included outpatient rehabilitation at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and elementary school based services in Cobb County School District.

 

During her professional career, Mariea has had the opportunity to work with children who present with a variety of special needs. Mariea specializes in treating individuals with developmental delays including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, genetic disorders, auditory processing, and children with a range of oral motor and feeding disorders.  She is trained in Sensory-Oral-Sequential (SOS) Approach to feeding, Hanen Program It Takes Two Talk, and the coaching model in early intervention.

 

Mariea is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence.  Mariea has been recognized as an Award for Continued Education recipient for her exceptional commitment to continuing professional development by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

 

When at home, Mariea enjoys playtime with Saki, her adorable Shih Tzu and taking care of her houseplants Wanda and Winston.  She also enjoys being in nature, Zumba, traveling, and eating good food during visits to New Orleans.
